BCD Travel earns EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating for fifth consecutive year

Independent recognition reinforces BCD’s reputation as a valuable, sustainable partner

UTRECHT, The Netherlands, September 26, 2024 – BCD Travel received a platinum rating for the fifth consecutive year from EcoVadis, the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. With this rating, the travel management company (TMC) maintains its position in the top 1% of the 130,000+ assessed companies in over 180 countries across more than 220 industries. The TMC’s fifth straight platinum rating is a key milestone that not only confirms their commitment to sustainability but also reinforces their reputation as a valuable, sustainable partner for their clients.

The TMC has also been rated as ‘Leader’, the highest category, for EcoVadis Carbon Management Level, which forms part of the assessment. This carbon management solution is integrated with EcoVadis ratings to engage suppliers and drive decarbonization across the supply chain.

“With EcoVadis raising the bar higher than ever, we’re immensely proud to be recognized at the highest level once again,” said Olivia Ruggles-Brise, BCD’s vice president of Sustainability. “This recognition reflects our efforts to advance our sustainability performance continuously and demonstrates our commitment to promoting transparency throughout our value chain.”

The EcoVadis assessment considers sustainability practices in environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement – four key areas that are continuing to grow in importance for corporations, their employees, and the world as a whole. The assessment methodology is based on international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and ISO 26000.

In today’s environment, taking the annual EcoVadis assessment helps companies stay ahead of new ESG legislations being introduced across the world. Key legislative developments like the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the Green Claims Directive, and the progression in mandatory sustainability reporting requirements in markets like the US, Australia, and Singapore continue to change the landscape for sustainability performance measurements, accountability, and disclosure.

“The renewed Platinum rating is a very meaningful recognition for us, demonstrating how committed our employees are,” said Stephan Baars, BCD’s CEO. “Quite simply, taking consistent action on sustainability and achieving progress year after year is the right thing to do. At BCD, accountability for a more sustainable future runs across all functions of our organization. Our sustainability team works closely with legal, product development, finance, procurement, people & culture, and many other teams to drive the progress we seek.”

BCD’s 2024 Sustainability Report enhances transparency and highlights the progress over the past year. Some of these highlights include:

  • Obtaining EcoVadis Platinum year after year since 2020
  • Maintaining 100% coverage of the ISO-certified environmental health and safety management system across majority-owned markets
  • Achieving a 74% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions between 2016 and 2023
  • Measuring full Scope 3 emissions (including business travel, employee commutes, home working, and purchased goods and services)
  • Investing in renewable electricity across majority-owned markets, aiming to be 100% renewable globally by 2030
  • Supporting 37 Making a Difference projects that directly benefit young people across the world

The platinum rating from EcoVadis adds to a string of awards and recognitions for BCD’s sustainability achievements such as Most Admired TMC voted by readers of The Beat, BTN’s 2024 Business Travel Sustainability Award for “Achievement in Sustainability – TMC”, both in the Americas and Europe, Inclusive Talent & Recruitment Leader of the Year at the International Women in Travel and Tourism Forum  Awards, Global Top 100 Inspiring Workplaces, Flexjobs’ Top 100 for Remote Work, Built In’s Best Places to Work, Forbes’ America’s Best Midsize Employers and America’s Best Employers for Women, ESR Empresa Socialmente Responsible® 2024 in Mexico, Great Place to Work in Brazil, and many more.
